Anyone who knows me will tell you I have a real soft spot for stationery. Coming from a design background I really appreciate a beautiful design and love nothing more than picking out pretty cards, papers and invitations. The amount of time I’ve spent hunting down the perfect card is not even worth thinking about, so when it comes to wedding stationery I’m no different! I’ve come across so many wonderful companies out there, producing the loveliest designs that I wanted to share the work of some of my most stylish finds with you. Admittedly, I have discovered so many talented artists that there might be quite a few paper inspired posts!
Wedding stationery can often be overlooked, with so many things to think about – the dress, your colour scheme, how to decorate your venue etc etc! However, I think your stationery is a really important element. It gives your guests a sneak preview of the style and feeling of your day and not only that, you and your guests get to keep them as a treasured keepsake long after the day has gone. That’s why I love personal stationery, the kind that has real meaning to you as a couple, that tells a story and illustrates your ideas and aspirations for the day.
LUCY SAYS I DO
Hand illustrated designs, quirky and above all beautifully designed win me over every time and always make me smile. That’s exactly what happened when I rather happily came across ‘Lucy Says I do.‘
Lucy’s designs are so incredibly gorgeous and she has an equally beautiful website brimming with ideas. Lucy offers both personalised and bespoke wedding stationery, as well as a stunning range of cards and notelets that she sells through her Etsy shop. Just take a peek below at the prettiest florals, maps, patterned envelopes and illustrations, that you ever did see!
I just love these printed cards, they have a real naivety to them and they just make me smile! I think they would be perfect to write a little note on to thank your bridesmaids or parents.
Lucy will also professionally print your requested wedding vows, reading or poem inside one of her beautiful floral borders. I’m keeping my eyes peeled for anniversary presents and this fits the bill perfectly for the 1st year ‘paper’ anniversary. It would be such a lovely reminder of your day, framed on your wall amongst your wedding photos don’t you think?!
If you are after quirky vintage wedding invitations then look no further than RSVP Candy. They create truly unique, personalised invitations that will definitely put a smile on your guests faces. The folded invitation opens out to reveal you and your partners own personal story leading up to your big day. Stylish typography and retro illustrations are combined and printed onto luxury hammered white or vintage cream textured card. The front of the invite tells your story, whilst the back is home to all your big day’s details. You can even personalise each invitation with your guests’ names in the vintage font!
They also offer a design service for all your other pre, post and on the day wedding stationery. From save the dates and table plans to name card designs and thank-you cards, printed straight after your wedding.
RSVP Candy will also design a beautiful large one-off love story print for you to display on your actual wedding day. The fun and lighthearted feel of these invites together with the beautiful retro typography make these, well – just brilliant!
PIGEON & QUILL
You cannot help but fall in love with Pigeon & Quill’s charming wedding invitation maps. Alexandra will create a completely bespoke map for you based on your wedding venue and style. Each map is beautifully illustrated and then hand-painted to create a real work of art! Alexandra will also paint your portrait together with your illustrated map. Her latest commission (shown below + super lovely) was a bespoke map and illustrated portrait of the couple, for their wedding at Babington House this summer.
Pigeon & Quill have just launched a modern take on a Victorian theme with their hand illustrated, ‘Venue portraits.’ The design includes a painting of your venue, your monogrammed initials and choice of flower surround. This could form part of your wedding stationery or be a lovely present to frame and keep after the wedding.
FOLDED PAPER DESIGNS
The stunning drawings from Folded Paper Designs certainly evoke a feeling of fun. Wedding photographer Caro Hutchings and illustrator Jenni Desmond launched the company together after Caro couldn’t find the right invites for her own wedding and commissioned Jenni to design them for her. The handwriting and comical element of these designs really reminds me of the illustrations of Saul Steinberg and Quentin Blake. You can either pick out your favourite illustrations on their website or use their fully bespoke design service.
